I had an awesome weekend. It was filled with love, respect, empowering words, encouraging hugs and heartfelt laughter. I spent the weekend with The Sisterhood!!
What is The Sisterhood, you ask? Well let me tell you…
- She is the strong woman serving in the military, leading and training Troops for the daunting task of deploying to a foreign land to protect the freedoms we enjoy in our great country.
- She is the Senior Military Leader preparing to transition from the military within the next 5 years, she has dreams of starting her own business after her military career is over. But the unknowns of life after the military weight heavy on her mind and keep her up at night.
- She is the Woman Veteran who served her country honorably for 24 years only to discover that she now suffers with depression AND PTSD as a result of multiple deployments. She ponders if those many instances of unreported sexual harassment incidents have a part to play in her diagnosis as well, something only she and her mental health counselor know to be part of her story.
- She is the Military Spouse turned Caregiver to her recently medically retired Military Hero. She’s stood by his side and supported him for 12 years, 5 moves, 3 deployments, countless military schools, training and special assignments that took him away from home and left her to serve as ‘Household 6’ (6 is often time used to identify the Commander of an element – i.e.: Household Commander). She often feels alone in her task of caregiver and wonders when will she ever have time to pursue her dream of going back to school.
Yes, I was in my element! These are women I care deeply about because I can relate to each one of them. These are my Sisters in Arms, we share a close bond. In many of their faces, I saw myself. In many of their stories, I heard my own words. She is me and I am her. This is The Sisterhood I belong to. Check your Sister circle…Have you surrounded yourself with women who get you?
